When we first got there, Mommy checked him in and Daddy took him into the "waiting area" which has a couple of X-Boxes, a 42" LCD screen with the Disney channel playing (though they were both turned off at the time we arrived). They also have a two-story castle that kids can run around and climb and play on. When we got there, Kyle had the whole thing all to himself!
After a few minutes of playing in the waiting room we got called back. Kyle was pretty quiet, but was not being overly shy. The nurse asked him to climb up on the chair, which he did. He got to hold the various tools and actually did respond to a couple of the nurse's questions.
The Dr. got there and showed him the little mirror she uses to check teeth and, of course, Kyle had to see this demonstrated with Mommy, Daddy, the nurse, the Dr. and then finally allowed her approximately 2 1/2 seconds for her to look into his mouth. Every time he was asked to open up, he would open wide for a second or two and then close right back up.He was still in good spirits, though. He loved riding the chair up higher as the Dr. raised it up, but he was not about to let her brush his teeth (though he did seem to enjoy the Cars toothbrush she gave him).
He got to brush the teeth of their stuffed mascot, Daz (the place is called Dazzle Dental...they have a dinosaur mascot named Daz), and showed the Dr. how he brushed his own teeth. He still wouldn't let the Dr. or nurse do that, though.
After a bit, and getting to touch a few more of the tools and such, they decided they didn't want to push him too far and get him upset. So he rode the chair back down, picked out a balloon and a little toy and then we left.
They said that he did really well for his age and this being his first time.So we'll see how he does in another six months or so when we go back. Hopefully, by then, he'll have a little better understanding of what's going on and will be even more cooperative.
In the end, Mommy and Daddy were very proud of him. He was a very good boy and did very well considering how scary the whole thing could have been.
