Playhouse Disney Live

So, last night we (Mommy, Daddy & Grandma) took Kyle to Playhouse Disney Live.

We all met at Grandma's house around 5:00pm to have pizza and get over to US Airways Arena. Upon arrival at Grandma's, I was told that Kyle had only napped for 15 minutes that day. Not a good way to start!

But, Kyle was a trooper and was still in relatively good spirits. So, away we went to the show. Kyle picked out some plush Little Einstein characters and then we found our seats.

At the beginning, Kyle was doing pretty good. He was very obviously tired, but he was sitting quietly and watching the show. We couldn't get much in the way of pictures as they had announced that flash photography was not allowed. However, Daddy had his Blackberry with him and snapped a couple quick pics of him just before the show and at intermission.

Overall, I think we were all somewhat disappointed with the show itself. We all had much higher expectations, what with it being a Disney production. It seemed very quirky and "high-schoolish" as Mommy put it.

Some of the characters were portrayed fairly well. Handy Manny was decent. Tigger and Pooh were Tigger and Pooh. But the Little Einsteins were more than a little creepy, as was Tigger and Pooh's friend Darby. It's difficult to describe. It's like they were not just over-acting and using overly-dramatic gestures (yes, in live theater, that is to be expected to some extent, but this was ridiculous) and it was almost like watching a combination of William Shatner and Phoebe from Friends. I'm not kidding! It was strange!

Nonetheless, we forged on and continued into Act II, but Kyle was really getting antsy by then. So we ended up leaving with probably about 10 - 15 minutes left of the show. This, of course, meant that we weren't stuck in traffic, so that's always a good thing.

I'm not sure that we'll go back to a show like that again. The Sesame St. show was far more interesting and colorful and engaging, we thought. And, for those of you who heard about the Wiggles show, I think he liked that one the best!

Oh, well. Win some, lose some, I guess. Now, I'm trying to get Mommy to agree to take him back to the Arena in December to see AC/DC. Wish me luck with that one!
