I didn't get a chance to know Maria Mateus very well. But the times that I did get to meet her, she could only be described as an exceedingly sweet woman. I know that my brother, David, was very lucky to have her as a mother-in-law.
It was just a few days ago when I got an e-mail from my brother informing friends and family of Maria's unexpected passing. More information about her services can be found here.
Although I did not know her well, I was fortunate enough to be the beneficiary of her generosity when I had the opportunity to stay for a week at Antonio and Maria's condo in Nazare, Portugal. My brother and his wife, Theresa, and their daugther, Gillian, were staying there for several months and I was invited to stay with them.
It was an amazing experience. One that I will not ever forget. It was my first time being anywhere in the world outside of the U.S.
I am quite certain that Maria will be missed by an exceedingly large number of people who loved her very much and were, in some way, touched by her spirit and her generosity.
God bless you, Maria.
