Slackers 'R Us

So, once again I am ashamed of my natural inclination toward slackerness (though I never seem to have trouble making up words). But, in this case, I think there was due cause.

I shared previously what a fun and exciting weekend we had while Kyle had the flu from Friday night until later Sunday. In fact, I ended up staying home on Monday just to make sure he had a full recovery and was able to take solid foods, rehydrate and all that.

Tuesday, by the afternoon, Mommy was heading downhill fast. I ended up taking off a little early to go pick up Kyle and bring him home. On the way, I called to check on her and when I got on the phone, Kyle wanted to talk to her.

The 1/2 of the conversation that I got to hear was priceless!

First, I hear Kyle ask her if she's sick. This was because I had told Kyle when I picked him up that Mommy was at home and she was sick, so we had to go take care of her.

Next, he asked her, "You be glad to see me?" Ok, I about drove off the road at that, I was laughing so hard. But the clincher was next. "Mommy, I bring you a flower?"

I was laughing so hard. And Mommy thought that I was prompting him, but no. I hadn't said anything other than that Mommy was sick.

Is that just the sweetest little boy, or what!

So, we stopped at the grocery store to pick her up some ginger ale and Kyle picked out some flowers...pink roses...to take to Mommy. When we got home, he brought them to her and declare, "Mommy, this to you!"

What a precious child. Just makes up for all the times he drives us insane. :-)

The story doesn't end there, though. Later that night, or I suppose it would be the next morning at about 1:00am, this insidious ailment decided to attack me as well. So now, both parents were sick, with a healthy child sleeping in the next room.

The problem? How do we get Kyle to his sitter and away from his sick parents without getting him sick again? Fortunately, we were lucky enough to have a fantastic baby-sitter who came and picked him up from us.

Most of the remainder of that day, I was pretty much bed-ridden and Joelle was feeling better and started cleaning up and disinfecting everything. Later, when I was feeling a bit better, I got his bathtub cleaned up, cleaned our most of our bathroom and put new sheets on Kyle's bed. All this while we had the doors and windows open all day long to air out the house.

That night, just to be safe, Kyle spent the night at Grandma's house. He apparently woke up at about 5:30 (very early for him) asking for Mommy and Daddy.

About 7:30 or so, Grandma called us so Kyle could talk to us. Mommy had already left for work, so when he realized it was just Daddy, he lost interest in the phone and handed it back to Grandma. So it goes with little boys, I guess.

For now, we're hoping that all the sickness, disease and other ailments are past us and have moved on to a lovely little place I like to think of as "annihilation." For my money, that's the best place for germs to go.

And that's it for our week so far. Anyone else experiencing anything like that?
