While everyone always seems to spend so much time talking about the "terrible two's" I must say that one thing that doesn't get enough attention is the fact that, while they can be really trying at this age, they can also be enormously cute. One minute, you question whether or not you should just eliminate them and make another one. The next minute they've got you belly-laughing.
This morning was no exception. Well, okay, actually we just went pretty much straight to the belly-laughing.
As Joelle and I were getting ready for work this morning, we could here Kyle on the monitor doing his usual moaning that he does for about an hour or so before he actually fully wakes up. So, at about 7:00am, Joelle decided it was time to go into his room, get his clothes and see about getting him out of bed.
The moment the door was opened and she walked in, I could hear him telling her, "No, Mommy! I still sleeping!" It's probably a whole lot less funny reading about it here than it was hearing it in-person. But, there may still be one or two of you who think that it was mildly humorous.
I'm actually counting on that, because if I felt that nobody reading this would find it funny in any way, I wouldn't continue to tell you about the next thing that happened that had us laughing like crazy. And, believe me, if you found the first thing sort of funny, you don't want to miss this one.
After getting Kyle dressed (we decided on jeans instead of shorts...it was a little chilly this morning...only in the high 50's or so) I went in to get his shoes. I accidentally put his older shoes on. So, Mommy noticed they were the wrong shoes, but was asking Kyle if his feet hurt in them to see if we needed to put his newer ones on.
He kept saying that they didn't hurt. But about the third time she ended up asking him, he finally said, quite loudly, "No, Mommy! They're FINE!"
This was probably almost as much of a you-just-had-to-be-there moment as the previous one. But I'm just amazed at some of the things he says and the ways he says them. He's growing up to be a little man instead of our little baby boy! To see a boy standing there, just shy of a whopping three feet tall, talking like this....it's always surprising.
One day, I'm sure I won't be so amazed at this type of stuff. Instead, I'll be amazed at things like...I dont' know...Kyle building a nuclear reactor for his 5th grade science fair or something like that. Until then, I'm content to listen to these little nuggets of "maturity" that he occasionally throws out there at us.
Anyone else out there have some good stories to share about the crazy things they're little ones say?
