Face 2 Face

At what will probably have been a once-in-a-lifetime experience, I had the distinct pleasure on 3/26/09 of attending one of the greatest concert performances I have ever been to. None other than Billy Joel and Elton John, once again touring the world together and sharing the stage.

There was never any question that this was going to be a fantastic show. I seriously doubt that there could have been a different outlook on a show like this. In the past, I had missed opportunities to see these two legendary performers together, though I did get to see Joel in concert about 10 years ago.

As if simply attending this type of show weren't enough...when we purchased our tickets, the only available seats were behind the stage and our tickets indicated that these seats had a "limited view." We were quite pleasantly surprised, however, when we arrived and went to find our seats.

I know that the picture quality is not great, but they were taken with my Blackberry in a dark setting. I tried to enhance the lighting a bit, but my skills with photo editing are not quite on the same level as some other people I might mention...
This was the view looking down to the stage. Yes, our area had a counter top with built-in monitors. And, no, the monitors were not used during the performance (though that would have been just that much more cool!)

With the lights on, this was our view of the pianos, facing one another. Not a bad view at all. Certainly not what I would call "limited view."

Zoomed in shot of Elton's piano. Again, the picture quality doesn't truly express how cool these seats were.

Joelle and Bob relaxing in our nice, reclining, mesh office chairs. Bob pointed out that the chairs were more expensive than the tickets.

Here's Bob, kicking back and watching the jumbo-tron hanging just above us. I tried to get a shot of that, but the picture ended up looking very creepy. It made Billy Joel look like the Ghost of Christmas Future or something.

All in all, the show lasted for almost four hours, with no intermission. It was a most exciting display of showmanship, musical talent, musical nostalgia and new perspectives on old songs as we heard each artist taking liberties with one another's songs and adding their own flare and style to the song.

Although these guys aren't getting any younger and chances are I may never get another opportunity to see them in concert together like this, the were certainly not short on talent. One can only imagine what it might have been like to see them together 10 or 20 years ago! As good as this show was, that must have been simply amazing!

I am immensely pleased that I was able to see them before it was too late. And, God willing, if I get another opportunity, I will not hesitate to jump on it. If you have the opportunity to see this show (if you can find tickets) it is well worth the price of admission.

TTFN!
