Our Little Larva

It’s probably a good thing Kyle can’t read quite yet. If he could, he might start getting a bit jealous that his yet-to-be-born sibling is already getting a lot of attention here on the blog. It makes me wonder, if we’re posting regular pictures of the baby starting at the embryonic stage, does this indicate that we will avoid that “second child lack of pictures” thing that many families seem to go through?

How often I hear about parents who take bazillions of pictures of the first child, hundreds of their second, maybe a few of the third and any children after that tend to only be found in group photos. Maybe we won’t be like that. Maybe we’ll just have so many pictures that we’ll have to look at buying disk space on an Internet hosting site with unlimited storage. Actually, that’s not a bad idea. It’s pretty cheap and you can usually include the cost of your own domain name. But I digress.

You’re not reading this to hear about the value of web hosting (at least I don’t think you are). My guess is that you’re more interested in seeing pictures. After all, that was the original intent of this blog and, to some degree, remains the major focus.

This first picture may be a bit difficult to make out. It wasn’t the clearest one in the selection, but I did not want to deprive anyone of a single picture as there may be people out there who are obsessive about that sort of thing. Maybe you’re that person who keeps every single digital picture ever taken, even when it’s a horrible picture just as the person is taking a huge bit of pizza and their eyes are half-closed with that dazed look that people seem to have in those types of pictures. Then again, maybe you’re not that person. If not, just enjoy and go to the next picture.

Larva-2

Here’s one that’s a little closer up. Still a bit grainy (hence the need for pointing out which part is actually the head) but you can see the little tail as it’s getting a bit smaller than it was. Enjoy it now, kiddo…that tail will be gone before you know it.

Larva-3
Now this one is a little better. It looks like the head is about 50% of the entire mass. How crazy is that?

Larva-4
I tried to save the best one for last. You can see the head and the little larva body and the tail curling up at the end.

This was a really cool visit because the baby was very active while we were there. Too small yet for Mommy to feel anything, but while we watched, this little larva was just bouncing around all over the place. Flipping and flopping. It was pretty cool. And, since this was not a regularly scheduled visit, we still have our appointment this coming Tuesday (at which time…you guessed it! More pictures!).

The baby had a nice, strong heartbeat and everything looked great. We’re still looking at our same December 10th due date, so we’ve got time to work on getting Kyle adjusted to the idea that he will no longer be an only child. Not sure how easy that will be as I don’t know that he really gets that yet.

Aside from having to plan for this autumn when we’ll have to start getting a bedroom prepared, the other thing we have to do is get Kyle out of diapers. Two in diapers at the same time does not sound like a lot of fun. In fact, it sounds expensive. So, hopefully that will be done by then and we can just focus on setting up Kyle’s “consolidated” bedroom and setting up another bedroom for the newest, youngest member of the family.

TTFN!

I meant to put this in there somewhere, but now that it's posted, I couldn't figure out a good place to fit this in.

Mainly, I just wanted to make sure to point out the fact that the baby has, you may have noticed, graduated from "tadpole" status to "larva."

In the next couple weeks, I expect that it will once again be promoted to full-on "baby." Stay tuned as I'm quite sure we'll have those pictures available as soon as possible.

And, since we're not waiting to find out gender, you'll all be in the loop with that, too.
