How I Spent My Summer Vacation - Part 2

Well, here it is not quite a week later and we've made a bit more progress on this backyard project. I was totally unaware how quickly one can get people out to do certain things and was pleasantly surprised when I learned that we could have someone come out to do curbing in time for the weekend.

The guys were scheduled to be at our house between 8:00am and 10:00am. So, I got up around 7:00am and went out back to try to smooth out the ground on the path where the curbing would be laid down. I was out there for probably 10 or 15 minutes when Joelle came out and said that they were at the door. So much for preparing the ground. Fortunately, they did a great job doing the stuff I had planned on doing.

It was pretty cool how they did the curbing. Just place a few wheelbarrows strategically around the yard filled with the mix. Then they filled up the hopper on their curbing machine and just extruded the cement right out. While one guy steered the extruder, another guy kept shoveling more mix into the hopper. With the wheelbarrows placed around the yard as they were, they never had to walk too far from the wheelbarrow to the hopper. It was pretty cool.

It took them about 45 minutes or so to do the entire curb, including creating the joints and finishing the edges by the patio. Not bad at all. So, now we have to let it sit for 24 hours and get started leveling the ground at 8:00am tomorrow. More pictures of that yet to come.

The whole sod thing was an interesting thing, too, but I thought I'd wait until next time to tell you how much fun that was. In the meantime, take a look at our freshly installed curbing...
They started right up against the patio and just followed the path from there.

It was a bit of a windy path, but I thought it looked pretty nice.

Apparantly, we still need to find another leak before we cover up the rest of the trenches over here.

And so the curb winds around the yard coming back to the other side of the patio.
