So far, after taking an over-the-counter gender test, it had come back as a boy. But, nonetheless, Joelle was holding out hope that the test (only about 80% accurate) would have been wrong. Her doctor and her nurse both were saying that, given the symptoms she was getting this time around, they thought that it would be a girl.
It came down to a stand-off. Real, live experience and training vs. over-the-counter, low-cost technology. Who would win?
The nurse came in and took vitals. The nurse practitioner came in with the ultra-sound machine. The family (me, Kyle and Grandma) gathered around the screen. Kyle commented on the blue gel they put on Mommy’s belly for the ultrasound (several times). The camera was ready. The nurse probed around trying to get a good angle.
After a collective holding of breath…suddenly, the climactic moment had arrived. She got the angle. Adjusted the picture. And as we all leaned in to see…
It’s a GIRL!
