Just In Time

For some time, now, we’ve been talking amongst ourselves about hoping the Kyle is potty-trained by the time Kaitlyn is born so that we don’t have two kids in diapers at the same time. As Kaitlyn’s due-date draws nearer and nearer, we were starting to get a bit worried.

Then, Kyle would start saying things that would seem to indicate that he was ready to try potty-training. But then, he would sit on the potty for almost three whole seconds and then declare that he was done. We would try distracting him to keep him on the potty a little longer…reading books, giving him a toy to play with, etc.

Once off the potty, he would usually pee in his pull-up within two minutes. This wasn’t really ideal as pull-ups are a bit more expensive than diapers…and diapers aren’t exactly cheap.

We decided that at the end of the weekend, if things were still going the same way, we’d go back to diapers and try again in a month or so. Then, Sunday morning, after sitting on the potty about eight times in two hours, he finally peed in the potty!!

As Mommy and I cheered for him and clapped and jumped around and basically made complete fools of ourselves, all he could do was to tell us “Please don’t shout to me.” He doesn’t like loud noises, and even when those noises are cheers for him, he’s just not that into it.

Over the course of the day, I think he sat on the potty about 100 times and actually peed on the potty about 10 times. After the whole day there was only one accident…and he was outside at the time, so that helped minimize the cleanup.

We’re so excited for him and proud of him. He’s getting to be such a big boy! Now, he should be ready for when he goes to pre-school and into the three-year-old kids' church. PLUS….only one kid in diapers in December!!!

Wahooo!!
