We just had something happen to us a few days ago (see...I'm almost caught up) that hasn't happened in quite some time. It was one of those things that hit you all of a sudden and really freak you out.
Almost simultaneously, as she realizes what it must be, she actually sees it and confirms her fears. There on the floor, literally about an inch from Kyle's toes, is a scorpion.
Needless to say, she rushed past, swept up Kyle to get him away from it and called for me to come kill it (which, of course I did...quite handily, in fact).
After that part of the episode was over, we told Kyle what a good boy he was for telling us without trying to pick it up himself. We told him that if he ever sees one of those again (we made sure he understood that it was a scorpion and not just a bug) that he should do the same thing...call Mommy or Daddy right away.
Apparently, he was sensing how severe this was because he started getting a bit scared and wanted to be held. It was bed time, so I carried him to his room and into his bed. As I did, I explained to him that when he gets up in the morning, before he comes out of his room, he should put on his slippers. I put them on the floor beside the bed for him and then laid down with him for a couple minutes.
Later, after he had fallen asleep, Mommy went in to check on him as she usually does just before we go to bed. It would seem that after I had left his room, he wasn't quite asleep and had gotten out of bed briefly.
Here is what Mommy saw...
So, it would seem that he got out of bed, put on his slippers (just in case) and then climbed back in bed. Perhaps we were a little overly dramatic about how much a scorpion sting could hurt him. On the other hand, I'm just as happy with the idea of erring on the side of caution when it comes to scorpions.
For the last couple days, he's mentioned scorpions a few times. I think he's still a little freaked out. But then, that's how he was when he first started getting into dinosaurs and now he's fine with them.
That's our boy! God bless him.
TTFN!
