Ok, first I have to say...pun intended. Second, yes I recognize that that was really lame. But, as you may have noticed, I haven't been writing a lot so my skills are getting rusty.
So, for those of you who don't know (and this is one of my excuses for not having written recently) we just moved into a new house and are renting out our old place. We've been kinda busy with moving out of the old place, prepping it for the renters and then moving into the new place and getting that all "homified."
While I have not posted any pictures here in this post, I thought I'd at least give an update and then I can post pictures later. So here is what's been going on the last couple weeks.
First, we had to go through all the fun process of purchasing the new home while at the same time looking for renters for our other home since we couldn't sell it for what we owed (sound familiar to anyone?). We were a bit under the gun as this was a short sale and we had to close by 9/14 because the official foreclosure date was 9/15.
With the help of our real estate agent, loan officer, escrow agent, etc., we were able to close this deal in time and everything was completed by the 9/14 deadline. Pretty impressive since our agent originally told us that the fastest short sale she had done took about five months!
So, we got the house and the next day had several of the rooms painted and had the A/C serviced. The second day we had carpets replaced downstairs. The following day we had the upstairs carpets and all the tile cleaned. Finally, on that Friday, we started bringing some stuff over.
Saturday was the big moving day. We got a truck, three pickups, a trailor and a couple separate trips with the van (I can fit a LOT of stuff in a mini-van). We got most of the house emptied that day. The next day, we started putting stuff away at the new house and then Monday and Tuesday of the next week, took a couple more van trips to the old house to get more stuff from the garage.
On Tuesday night, with the help of my brother-in-law, we got the new dishwasher installed, emptied out the rest of the house and then put all the other junk that we weren't going to move at the end of the driveway because, as luck would have it, the next day was bulk pickup.
Wednesday, we got home and were pleasantly surprised to find out the my mother-in-law and father-in-law had gone to the house and hung valances in the family room, hung pictures, vacuumed the house, cleaned up the kitchen, etc. As a result, we ended up taking that night off to just relax a bit.
The next few days was doing other little stuff, hanging more pictures, window treatments, emptying more boxes, re-arranging closets, working on Kyle's room and Kaitlyn's room, etc. It's been a lot of work but it's going pretty well and we've made a lot of progress.
Next weekend, it's probably going to be all about the back yard. Gotta get the lawn fixed up, get Kyle's playset in place and put back together. We've got to the a new backboard for the basketball hoop (yes, there's a basketball hoop). Then, of course, there's getting the shed organized.
So, while a lot of work has been done, there is still a lot more to do. Hopefully, it won't still be in the 100's so I won't be dying while I'm out there working on the yard and the shed.
After all that, it'll mainly just be the normal, continuous, never-ending list of various things that always seem to need to be done. And hopefully, we'll get the bulk of the big stuff done before Kaitlyn is born.
That's it for the verbiage and I'll be posting pictures of the new house soon, so keep your eyes peeled for those.
In the mean time, have a great day/week/month (or however long it takes me to post something again).
